La Manga, which literally means the sleeve, is a lovely tranquil refuge situated in the autonomous community of Murcia . It showcases approximately 40 kilometers of crystal clear waters, and thus is a very popular tourist magnet, be it for holiday escape or even for permanent residence.

An aerial view of the La Manga vicinity surely is an attention-grabbing sight. Its geographical layout is so unique no wonder it has become one of the most inviting tourist emblems of Murcia.

Originally, what is now known as La Manga del Mar Menor was a typical bay open to the Mediterranean. The volcanic movements that occurred over the years have been so instrumental to the present-day physical lay-out of La Manga . Now, the La Manga is a natural border for the Mar Menor ( which means little sea ), the largest saltwater lake of Europe. At the same time, another part of the outer La Manga land mass strip faces the Mediterranean. For this reason, La Manga is famously dubbed with the slogan, A Paradise Between Two Seas. It is sliced off by natural waterways (called golas ) that enable the two seas to still get in touch with each other. This way, the Mediterranean waters can still get through the Mar Menor.

For a very long time, this part of Murcia remained to be untouched. It was only during the 1960 s that La Manga was discerned to be a lucrative tourist spot. At present, the whole La Manga has been constantly built with commercial infrastructures to be able to respond to the rising tourism industry. First rate hotels, bars, discos, restaurants, championship-sized golf courses, top-class spa resorts, recreational hubs, you name it, La Manga will not come short. In fact, even the real estate business is growing rapidly in this side of the earth. Just like the other tropical resorts, the summer months are also the busiest for this town. The winter season however, will provide a calm and soothing ambience ideal for hectic people searching for a cool escape.

The tasty food of La Manga is another one of its magnetic factors. Since this town is a coastal vicinity, expect a lot of seafood specialties, although there is a wide variety of international cuisine in the many restaurants that line the beaches.

A great sunny weather, delectable cuisine, contemporary structures, fine sand, crystal clear waters – its an ultimate paradise on earth and there is nothing more to ask for when you are in La Manga.

Weather in La Manga

La Manga is well-known for its easygoing weather. In fact, the World Health Organization has acknowledged that La Manga , and the whole vicinity of Costa Calida , have the healthiest climate. The Mediterranean breeze always wafts by the La Manga coast, making the area a really cool place to just breath, relax, and savor the purest air. Although the typical weather is sunny all year round, it can really get chilly at night or during winter time with a general temperature of 12 to 14 The typical summer daytime temperature does not fall below 30 and the winter season brings an average daytime temperature of 18ºC.

Places of Interest

The Terra Mittica Theme Park is located in Benidorm , part of the nearby Costa Blanca . This a well-known tourist destination since this is the largest theme park in Spain . Although the location of this park is beyond the La Manga limit, the short travel, utilizing the N-332 coastal road to Benidorm , will prove to be worthy once you have seen the fantastic areas of the park. Inside the Terra Mittica, you will experience 4 themed areas: Ancient Greece , Ancient Rome , Ancient Egypt , and of course Ancient Spain . In addition to that, there are many exhilarating rides, good restaurants, and classy bars to catch your fancy. The peak season of this theme park is during the winter months of October, November, and December.

Beaches

The La Manga strip boasts over 40 kilometers of fine beaches and many of these beaches are proud to be awardees of the prestigious Blue Flag citation. The Blue Flag is an elite eco-label bestowed upon thousands of beaches in 35 countries across the globe. This means that La Manga beaches have reached the high standard of cleanliness both on the coastline premises and the waters as well. The handlers of the tourist-stricken beaches of La Manga see to it that litter collection, security, and lifeguard services are given ample diligence.

The most inviting characteristic of the La Manga coastline is the thought that it is divided into two seas, the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean Sea. The former is a huge body of saltwater lake with shallow and calm waves. The latter, in contrary, is much deeper and with powerful waves coupled with fresh strong winds. Nevertheless, the existence of the two seas gives much pleasure to both locals and tourists, most especially during the summer season. Take a summer night stroll on this sultry resort and discover how the nightspots come alive. And don t forget, retiring is not on the agenda until the wee hours of the morning.
